I believe I confused the restaurant manager at
a Chinese restaurant in Milpitas today.
When he asked me in Cantonese what kind of tea
I wanted, I replied back in English regarding what the choices
are. As a result of my English, he started naming
the teas in English. Problem is I only recognize
the different teas by the Cantonese names and not the English
names so I asked him to repeat it again in Cantonese. I
believe I confused him by requesting he speak Cantonese even
though I was speaking English. It probably didn't help
later when I ordered our dinner speaking both English and
Chinese. Good 'ol Chinglish.
Later when he took our
money from the bill, I guess he wasn't sure what to speak to
me anymore after my mixing it up so he just gave me the
thank you in both English followed by Cantonese.
